Analysis of results of retention in patients, who passes orthodontic treatment on the non-removable equipment

Currently, the development of modern techniques and methods of treatment applied in the practice of orthodontic dentistry, usually allows to solve the most complex clinical cases. Modern diagnostic methods allow to do accurate calculations and plan the course of orthodontic treatment, and foresee in advance the optimal patient management tactics. However, the issue of retaining the results of orthodontic treatment remains not fully understood. The various methods and approaches of using removable and non-removable retainers doesn't clarify the opinion about the efficiency of each individual retainer. In order to assess the effectiveness of various retainers, the study was conducted on the efficiency of retaining the results of orthodontic treatment in patients of different age groups, depending on the type of retainer. The research methodology consisted of evaluating teleradiography data, analyzing plaster models of jaws, collecting gingival fluid and determining immune and inflammatory parameters of periodontium, as well as questioning 246 patients aged from 12 to 38 years about the convenience of using the retainer. The results of the work, obtained on the basis of the investigated data, made it clear that the most functionally effective retention method, was a combined method using a removable retention mouthguard and a non-removable nitinol wire retainer. According to the patients assessment, the most convenient retainer to use was the removable retention mouthguard.
